Special Greetings from Incoming GISC Director Rasmus Frederich

Introductory Message from our Incoming GISC Director | April 25, 2025
Dear GISC Community,
It is with great anticipation and excitement that I write to you today as the incoming Head of School at the German International School Chicago.

When my family and I move from Hannover to Chicago this summer, it will be much more than just a transatlantic relocation. For us, it is a conscious and heartfelt decision to become part of a vibrant, values-driven community. My wife and I are especially happy that our three children – Bosse (7th grade), Paul (5th grade), and Matilda (1st grade) – will be joining the student body at GISC starting this summer.

From my very first contact with GISC, I was deeply impressed by the school’s clear vision, its living commitment to bilingual education, its international outlook, and the warm sense of community that reached all the way across the ocean to Germany. GISC is more than just a school – it is a place where children grow into confident, curious, and compassionate individuals in a safe and globally-minded environment.

This mission resonates strongly with my own educational philosophy: I am committed to building a school where every child is seen – for their strengths, their interests, and their questions. I believe in collaborative teamwork and a school culture where all members – students, teachers, staff, and parents – share responsibility and learn from one another.

My motivation to take on the leadership of GISC at this exciting time of growth stems directly from this vision: In grades 9 through 12, too, we aim to create a learning environment that combines academic excellence, international openness, and a strong sense of community – the kind of community that can only grow when people truly connect.

It is a privilege to begin this journey together with all of you. I look forward to meeting you and your children in person and to shaping the next steps of this remarkable school together with the entire GISC team.

Warm regards,

Rasmus Frederich
