Our Story

The Story of GISC

In 2007, a group of German, American, and Austrian parents came together to establish a German immersion school in Chicago.
They found support from members of local international business communities, as well as from American parents seeking the benefits of a rigorous bilingual education for their children. We incorporated as an independent, not-for-profit, co-educational preschool through 12th grade bilingual school in December of 2007. A short while later, we opened our school with 13 preschool students and two teachers with the mission of providing an international, dual-language education in a supportive and individualized learning environment. GISC has since grown to over 170 students in preschool - 8th grade.

Looking to the Future

In addition to our IB PYP curriculum, we are currently exploring the IB’s MYP program for our older students. As the school continues to grow, GISC will also offer a high school program, graduating students an internationally recognized IB Diploma, a U.S. High School Diploma, and a DSD II certificate (Deutsches Sprachdiplom Stufe II). German International School Chicago graduates, fluent in both English and German, will be academically and culturally prepared to succeed around the world.
German International School Chicago is a preschool through 8th grade school that prepares students to become well-rounded, creative, and responsible global citizens. We provide students with a rigorous German-English bilingual education in a supportive and individualized learning environment.
