Announcing New Director Visit and GISC Volunteer of the Year

Weekly Update from the Director - May 2, 2025
Dear GISC Families:

There are two items of schoolwide interest:

●    Incoming Head of School Herr Rasmus Frederich will visit GISC May 13 - 18
●    Longtime GISC Parent Frau Danielle Anson to be honored as GISC Volunteer of the Year

Herr Frederich’s visit:

We are planning an all-student assembly on Wednesday, May 14. We also plan to have Herr Frederich tour the school, visit all classrooms, meet with faculty and staff, the team at the Consulate, and the trustees. Naturally, we are also offering two parent sessions to meet our new Head of School – please take the time to meet Herr Frederich and get to know him:

●    Thursday, May 15 at 8:30 a.m.: Sports Court Area
●    Thursday, May 15 at 2:15 p.m.: Sports Court Area
●    Saturday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the GISC Gala

Herr Frederich officially begins his new assignment on August 1. He is looking forward to meeting you during his visit.
Danielle Anson, 2025 GISC Volunteer of the Year

I have often referred to Danielle as a connector – in Malcolm Gladwell’s book The Tipping Point, a connector is described as someone who has a vast network of acquaintances and is skilled at making introductions. Connectors are like social hubs, connecting different groups and individuals, essentially bridging gaps between people and ideas. Well, that is the very definition of Danielle.

Danielle is the first person in our community that our new families and future prospective families meet. Whether she’s helping out at the barbecue to welcome our new families to GISC prior to the start of every school year or leading a special Wednesday Playgroup to give parents of infants and toddlers an opportunity to build community and make friends, Danielle’s commitment to building community spirit is evident in every endeavor she undertakes on behalf of our school.

Over the years, Danielle has graciously given of her time and efforts to support traditional school events as well as try new things that serve and enrich our community. Most recently, she has worked to develop a schoolwide Flea Market in person and online to give our families opportunities to share resources, as well as taken the lead in organizing our annual Bike to School event to promote cycling with our students and families.

Since her eldest son Cooper started at GISC in 2015, Danielle has always volunteered. Throughout her time, Danielle has been a steadfast supporter of our GPG, having served as its Chair for three years and for numerous years as a Room Parent. Danielle will be officially recognized at our Gala event on Saturday, May 17; please join me in congratulating Danielle on this well-deserved honor.

With warm regards,

Ben Hebebrand
