Gala 2024: Thank you for your Support!

Weekly Update from the Director – May 17, 2024
Dear GISC Families,
Thank you and Dankeschön are not sufficient to express my gratitude for the manner in which our school community and to some extent the DACH community came together in support of our German International School Chicago. I am simply in awe of the generosity and love that our gala sponsors, our tireless volunteer efforts, our DACH and business community representatives such as the Consul Generals of Germany and Switzerland, our gala guests (including virtual guests bidding on Silent Auction items), our trustees, and of course you, our parents, show toward GISC.
This love and support for GISC in its 15th anniversary year is a tremendous boost for our school and its mission to offer Chicagoans and expats planning a move to Chicago access to a bilingual school that offers the International Baccalaureate programs to promote students to become thoughtful and caring global citizens. As we announced at the gala, our school this year served a total student enrollment of 195 students, continuing the trend of continuous annual growth.
While the final accounting has not yet been finished, we are pleased to report that GISC will have grossed a shade above $300,000. The proceeds from the gala are designated for GISC’s general operating expenses as well as specific funds for a first phase of playground improvements that will result in less asphalt and more natural playscape. We will keep you updated on the final philanthropic dollar amount our gala generated as well as our specific plans for the playground.
Lastly, a word of immense gratitude to our Development Director Jaclyn Stacy, the Gala Committee and the many other volunteers who helped make our gala such a great event. Of course, I want to extend gratitude to the faculty and staff, who also helped with gala preparations and during the actual gala event. I will close this note by honoring our Volunteer of the Year Halla Wissner, who in her remarks at the gala told us that volunteerism is such a great way to connect with our school and our community. Thank you to all of our volunteers and donors at the GISC 2024 Gala.
